The reason is there are disadvantages of not having gender segregation, so I think modern schools don't need to have gender segregation, not modern schools should not have gender segregation. So, let me tell you about the advantages and disadvantages of not having gender segregation. The advantages are students can make more friends, classes would have more students participating in lessons, etc. When there are more students, then there is more percentage that students will make more friends. And this is important because students will be able to increase their social skills and have more fun with more friends. When there are more students, there will be more students who participate in things, because as the number of students increases the ratio stays similarly, so there will be more students who will participate in-class activities. Another advantage is the atmosphere of the school will be different, because as the different students interact with each other it will create unique atmospheres. But if similar students interact with each other, it will create similar atmospheres, so not having gender segregation would create more unique atmospheres. The disadvantages are students can't focus with more friends, different atmospheres can distract them, etc. If there are more friends, students would like to talk and play with them and have fun. So, with more friends, students will be likely distracted, and sometimes unable to focus on class activities. Then this will lead to students not participating in-class activities, but this will only happen to some students. When there are different atmospheres, that means there are also different friend groups. And with all these different friend groups, students can get easily distracted by trying to join those friend groups. Then this can distract students, but this is only for some students, too.
