[TOPIC WRITING]"The legal drinking age should be changed to 18 for hard liquor and spirits, and to 16 for beer and wine."
What do you think about the current legal drinking age? Then, do you think the legal drinking age should be changed to 18 for hard liquor and spirits, and to 16 for beer and wine? I think the legal drinking age should not be changed because 16 is still a high school student and the student would not be able to focus to classes when he or she drank beer or wine. And there are other reasons why the legal drinking age should not be lowered, the main reason is the government set the legal drinking age to 21 because they know a lot about what will happen if they lower the legal drinking age. Also, the CDC says that the minimum legal drinking age of 21 can save lives by decreasing the number of motor vehicle crashes. When the CDC did an experiment on this, it showed the result that a median of 16% had decreased motor vehicle crashes. And drinking at a young age can affect in bad ways for many people and one of the examples is 'changes in their brain development'. The age of 16 is the age that the student would still be growing, and if the change in brain development happens, then the student might not learn all things that the student needs to know. When the student is allowed to drink beer or wine, the student will have school performance problems like higher absenteeism and a poor or failing grade. Then this will affect the student's life very much, and the student might have a very different future than the student imagined. So, these are disadvantages of lowering the legal drinking age, but some people believe that the legal drinking age should be lowered. These poeple say that lowering the legal drinking age would grow the economy, this is true but growing the economy is not a better choice than students' future. When the student grows they will going to grow the economy in many ways and lowering the legal drinking age would make that future fail. And we don't know if this action will going to fail the economy in the future, so we should invest the economy in the student; not lowering the legal drinking age. Goodbye!!
